Thiruvananthapuram: UDF MLAs staged a protest in front of the Speaker AN Shamseer's office inside the Kerala Assembly by claiming that the Watch and Wards guards, who handle security and safety of Legislature Complex, manhandled MLA Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan on Wednesday. The Opposition leaders alleged that the Speaker is not protecting the opposition's rights.

The opposition MLAs staged protest by chanting slogans and demanding the speaker to respect their privileges in the assembly.

Earlier today, the speaker refused to entertain an adjournment motion moved by the opposition MLAs over an attack on a female student in Thiruvananthapuram. Citing that it is not a matter of immediate importance, the speaker rejected the motion.

The MLAs staged a protest inside the assembly hall and raised banners in front of the speaker's dais. The opposition boycotted the assembly in protest even before CM Pinarayi Vijayan could read out the statement on the Brahmapuram plant fire accident.

Meanwhile, Chalakudy MLA TJ Saneesh Kumar also collapsed amidst the protest in front of the speaker's office.
