UDF protest in front of secretariat, collectorates
Thiruvananthapuram: The United Democratic Front has besieged the secretariat and district collectorates to protest the deadlock in governance following the devastating floods. Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala will inaugurate the protest at the secretariat at 11 am.
The UDF is organising the protest alleging non implementation of flood relief-rehabilitation works and breakdown of law and order in the state. It also alleged that the government cheated the people in the Sabarimala issue.
The UDF cadres reached the secretariat by 6 am and blocked the north, south and west gates. However, the cantonment gate has been exempted allowing ministers and staff to enter the secretariat. A huge posse of police have been deployed outside the premises to avoid any untoward incidents.
The UDF is also besieging the district collectorates. In Kollam, RSP leader NK Premachandran will inaugurate the protest. In Pathanamthitta, Forward Bloc leader G Devarajan will inaugurate the protest. The protest in front of the Ernakulam collectorate started by 5 am. UDF convenor Benny Behanan inaugurated the protest at 10 am. At Kozhikode, Mullappally Ramachandran will inaugurate the protest.
