UDF govt established rehabilitation centres, not detention centres: MK Muneer
Thiruvananthapuram: Former minister and MLA MK Muneer dismissed the allegation on establishment of detention centres during the reign of UDF government. Responding to the allegation, he explained that UDF only opened rehabilitation centres to protect the human rights.
At the same time, he clarified that UDF will not take part in the human chain organised by the LDF government to protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act.
“It is alleged that UDF government planned to establish detention centres when I was the minister for social justice. These are baseless allegations. We only established rehabilitation centres to protect human rights of the people who are abandoned in prisons for more than 10 to 30 years,” explained Muneer.
Meanwhile he asserted that he will support the decision taken in the all-party meeting.
“If LDF had sought UDF’s support before the declaration of the human chain, we would have definitely supported it,” added Muneer.
He also noted that UDF will demand the government to summon a special assembly meet to discuss the Citizenship Amendment Act and its consequences.
