Kalpetta: The UDF has called for a hartal in Wayanad district on Monday against the draft notification which declared the area around Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary as Eco-Sensitive Zone (ESZ).
The UDF district committee informed that the hartal will be held from 6 am to 6 pm. UDF also said that they will move the court against the draft notification.
The other day, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change had declared a 3.4 square kilometre area around the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary as ESZ.
Once the notification is issued, all industrial activities that would cause pollution will be banned in the region. Opening of hotels and resorts have also been banned. Restrictions will be imposed on construction activities including that of roads. Mining for industrial purposes and felling of trees have also been banned.
