Idukki: The United Democratic Front (UDF) has called for a hartal in Idukki on November 28 raising various demands including exclusion of Idukki from buffer zone.

UDF has also demanded a solution to address the geographical issues in Idukki and lift ban on construction activities.

Interestingly, minister for industries P Rajeev will visit Idukki on November 28 for studying the new entrepreneurship in the district. It is reported that many expressed protest against the minister’s visit as the government did n’t take any action to solve the problems faced by the people here.

On June 3, the Supreme Court issued an order directing to identify one kilometre eco-sensitive zone (ESZ) mandatory for all wildlife sanctuaries and national parks. In August, Kerala amended its 2019 order and approached the apex court requesting to exempt inhabited areas from the eco-sensitive zone.
