UDF begins Secretariat siege; Capital city reels under traffic congestion

Thiruvananthapuram: The siege of Secretariat by UDF in connection with the University College issue began at the capital city on Thursday morning from 6 am. The blockade resulted in huge traffic congestion in the city troubling the public.

Police have blocked most of the roads. Complaints have been raised that even pedestrians were not allowed to pass. Office goers and students are stranded in middle of the road.

Heavy police contingent is deployed in and around the Secretariat. The main gate and two other gates of the Secretariat are blocked by UDF workers while leaving cantonment gate open for entry of ministers and officials. All the vehicles are being thoroughly inspected by the police.

The Secretariat employees are allowed inside the building after ID card checking.

The blockade is staged demanding judicial probe into University College incidents and calling for CBI investigation on PSC malpractice. Leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala inaugurated the blockade.
