UAPA against youth: Seized pamphlets were brought by police, says Thaha’s brother
Kozhikode: Brother of Thaha Faizal, who was arrested for allegedly possessing pro-Maoist brochures in Pantheerankavu here, stated that the pamphlets on Kashmir issue seized from the house were brought by the police. Thaha’s brother Ijaz Hassan also stated that only the electronic equipment and textbooks among the seized items were owned by Thaha. The relatives strongly believe that the alleged connection with other organisations are baseless.
The police claimed that a pamphlet asking to protest against Hindutva Fascism in Kashmir was seized from Thaha’s room. Their two-room house at Kodalnadakkavu in Pantheeramkavu cannot even accommodate four persons at a time. The room is full of clothes and textbooks of Thaha and Ijaz. Thaha is a voracious reader and has a habit of borrowing books from friends and libraries.
Alan Shuhaib, who was also arrested along with Thaha, had come to Thaha’s home by Friday evening. After some time both of them went out. What the family saw next was police accompanying Thaha back home early morning next day, his mother Jameela said. Alan used to come to their house once in a week. But the family did not know how their friendship started, she added.
Thaha completed Plus Two at Navodaya School in Vadakara. His favourite subjects are History and Geography. He had scored 97 percent in Plus Two Geography examination. The police had also seized Ijaz’s damaged laptop, pen drive, memory card and mobile phone. Thaha and Ijaz used to sleep in the room on the front side of the house. Only flags and banner of CPM were kept in the room, Ijaz said.
