Alappuzha: Two youth drowned after getting trapped in the muddy region of Achankovil river at Sharngakkavu Kadavu in Alappuzha on Sunday evening.
The deceased were identified as Puliyoor native Ramachandran Pillai’s son Rakesh (30) and Vettiyar native Manikuttan Pillai’s son Vishnu (26). Both of them were relatives.
The incident happened when Rakesh and Vishnu went for a family function in Venmala. They went missing at Sharngakkavu Kadavu at around 5.30 pm. The bodies were recovered by 6.15 pm during a search conducted by locals and fire force officials. Minister Saji Cheriyan was also present at the scene.
Police said that the mishap happened when Rakesh and Vishnu stepped into the river for swimming.
