Two women who went to collect clams die after boat capsizes in Malappuram

Malappuram: Two women died at Purathur in Malappuram after a boat overturned at Bharathapuzha on Saturday at around 7.30 pm. The deceased are identified as Rukhiya (60) and Sainaba (54). Beevathu, Rasiya, Salam and Aboobacker are the others who were reportedly in the boat.

The mishap happened when six persons of a family went to an islet in Bharathapuzha to harvest clams. The boat capsized at Punchikkadav near Chamravattom, while returning after collecting clams.

Beevathu and Rasiya, who escaped the tragedy, were admitted to a hospital in Alathiyoor. Both of them are in the ICU here. Police, revenue officials and locals have initiated a search for Salam and Aboobacker.
