Two Uttarakhand natives drown in Kozhikode during kayaking practice

Kozhikode: Two Uttarakhand natives drowned in Kadanthara river at Chembanoda here during kayaking practice. The incident took place on Sunday by 12 noon. A team of five members had arrived for practice. Among them, two were trapped in the heavy current. The mishap took place at Kallushappu Padi in Chembanoda.

Kadanthara river is dangerous in nature as there were many rocks. Six children drowned here two years ago. The river seems to have sudden rise in water level even if there is no rainfall. Those who are not familiar with the river are more likely to be in trouble, the locals said.

It is learnt that the team arrived for kayaking practice without getting permission. One person jumped into the river while the other one was trapped in the current. They were spotted far from the place of mishap. Though they were taken to Kuttiady Government Hospital, their lives could not be saved.
