Kochi: Recreational boats carrying more than allowed passengers were seized during an inspection at Kochi Marine Drive.

Police have taken two boats into custody for violating the law, St. Mary's and Sandhya. The boats with 13 passengers capacity were carrying 36 people.

Following the Tanur tragedy, the police have increased security in areas where boat services operate. Boat owners have been strictly instructed not to exceed the permitted number of passengers in their boats. However, despite the warnings, some boat owners violated the law.

The owners of the seized boats were taken into custody by the police, and their licences will be cancelled. The police have also emphasised that strict action will be taken against the boat crew for failing to follow safety protocols. The police urge all boat operators to strictly adhere to regulations to prevent accidents.
