Kannur: The police on Thursday arrested two more persons in Kannur for suspected IS links. The arrested were identified as Thalassery natives Hamsa and Manaf.
Police said the duo have been recruiting people to the Islamic State group.
Yesterday, three people were arrested in Kannur for their suspected links with the banned terror outfit.
According to police, the three suspects were taken into custody yesterday itself. While the arrest of three people who have direct links with the IS was recorded on Wednesday, the arrest of the ‘recruiters’ was recorded today.
The three men , who were arrested yesterday, had reportedly left the state years ago.
"Three persons, K C Mithilaj (20), K V Abdul Razzak (24) and M V Rashid (23) were arrested around 3 pm yesterday. They were arrested based on an evidence obtained after examining their phone calls. Further interrogation is going on, DySP Sadanandan said.
The three hail from Chakkarakkal and Valappattinam in the district and had returned from Turkey recently, after which they were being monitored by the police.
Police said the three men, who had left India earlier this year, returned around four months back after they were deported by Turkish authorities. The Turkish police had intercepted them while attempting to cross to Syria.
