Kottayam: Kerala Congress leader P. J. Joseph said he will file a writ petition with the Election Commission on Monday against granting the party’s two leaves symbol to Jose K. Mani faction.
He added that the UDF action against Jose K. Mani was not based on the election symbol.
P. J. Joseph’s stance comes at a time when there were reports of Jose K. Mani faction returning to the UDF fold.
“Only the chairman has the right to issue the whip. Issuing a whip as the chairman, after being asked not to work as the chairman, amounts to contempt of court. Action will be taken against it. The Election Commission had spoken only about the symbol. Even in that matter, one member had expressed strong opposition. I will file a writ petition in this regard on Monday,” Joseph said.
“I am the working chairman according to the party constitution. There is no dispute in that regard. Only the chairman and the working chairman can summon a meeting. Our offices are being taken over in the name of the chairman,” he added.
Joseph further said that UDF did not take action against Jose K. Mani faction based on the election symbol. UDF took a stance that Jose faction need not continue in the front after they repeatedly violated directives, Joseph said.
He added that UDF convener Benny Behanan had said that the political action was not taken on the basis of election symbol.
