Two CPM workers arrested in Kozhikode for distributing brochures on Attappadi encounter

Kozhikode: Two youth were arrested here for distributing brochures of Maoist related content. Kozhikode native Alain Shuhaib and Thaha Faizal were arrested by Pantheeramkavu police on Friday night. Both are CPM branch committee members.

Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) are charged against both. Many pro-Maoist brochures were seized from the arrested people. Both are law students at Kannur University.

Police said that the youth have connections with banned Left wing organisations and they were arrested for distributing brochures in protest over the encounter killing of Maoists at Attappadi in Palakkad.

Meanwhile, opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala stated that charging UAPA against those who were arrested for distributing brochures of Maoist related content is a barbaric act. The government violates democratic rights. UAPA is not to be charged against those who stand for ideologies, Chennithala added.

The barbaric face of the government has come to light with this incident. They are oppressing all democratic values. They should stop man hunting. Why the government fails to understand the matters pointed out by the CPI, Chennithala asked.
