Pathanamthitta: Two have been arrested here in Kozhencherry over the murder of a mentally-challenged man. The man’s uncle and his son are the ones who have been arrested.
Renil Davis (45) was found dead inside the well at his brother’s house on Monday morning. Both his legs were in a tied-up state. Renil’s uncle Mathew Thomas and his son Robin Thomas were taken into custody due to suspicion. Upon interrogation, it was revealed that they had murdered him.
Renil, who was mentally challenged, had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital for a long time. There were a few ongoing rifts with the neighbours due to his state as well. Renil has allegedly also made a few theft attempts. On Saturday night, Renil broke into his uncle’s house. His uncle found him when he returned home and they got into an argument. Mathew Thomas called his son and asked him to come home. Both of them overpowered Renil and tied up his limbs. He was then pushed into the well.
The accused cut off the ties on Renil’s arms before pushing him into the well. Mathew Thomas is the one who reported the spotting of Renil’s body inside the well on Monday morning. The preliminary conclusion was that he might have fallen into the well, but the tied-up legs raised the suspicion of the police.
Renil died due to an injury to his head. Police said that he could have sustained the head injury either during the fight or during the fall. He has also sustained bruises over his body.
Renil’s father had passed away early. His mother is also not very sound mentally. His only brother is staying abroad.
