Thiruvananthapuram: In an unfortunate incident, a youth died after falling into a well while dancing amid a temple festival in Thiruvananthapuram. The deceased has been identified as Indrajith aka Jithu (23), a native of Nemom.

The incident took place around 11.30 pm on Tuesday near Muthu Mariamman Temple, Melamcode. Karakkamandapam native Akhil (30), who went inside the well to rescue the youth, sustained injuries and has been admitted to a hospital in Santhivila.

As per reports, the youths arrived to listen to a music event organised as part of the temple festival. Indrajith and friends were apparently sitting on a plank above the well in a private property near the temple and were dancing to the music.

Meanwhile, the plank broke and Indrajith fell into the well. Following which, Akhil went down to rescue him. However, as the well was deep, Akhil fell short of breath and got trapped inside.

Soon after, the locals informed the fire brigade, who brought the youths out of the well. Although Akhil escaped with minor injuries, Indrajith could not be saved.

The rescue operation was led by assistant station officer KP Madhu, Rajasekharan Nair, Sajan Simon, Biju among others.
