TVM woman sets self, live-in partner on fire, both succumb to burns

Thiruvananthapuram: A woman and her live-in partner died after the former set themselves on fire at a flat in Nedumanagad here on Thursday. The deceased have been identified as Anad natives Abhilash and Bindhu.

The incident happened late on Thursday evening. Police suspect that Bindu set herself on fire after pouring kerosene over Abhilash during a brawl between them.

Though the couple is not legally married, they were reportedly in a live-in relationship in the flat for more than a year. Bindu's six-year-old son was also living with them. Abhilash, who was working abroad, arrived in Kerala a few days ago.

According to police, Bindhu poured kerosene over herself, Abhilash and the child. The child had a narrow escape after fleeing from the room soon after Bindu set herself on fire.

Later, the child told the neighbours of the incident. Both were pronounced dead on the scene. It is suspected that problems between the couple might have led to the incident.
