Thiruvananthapuram: A 23-year-old woman named Anju was found burnt to death inside the latrine of her residence on Tuesday. Disturbingly, her nine-month-old son, David, was also found with burn injuries. The baby's condition is critical, and is currently receiving life-saving treatment on a ventilator at a private hospital.

The distressing episode occurred at around 7 pm in Kadinamkulam, when Anju's husband, Raju, returned home in the evening. Realizing the grave situation, he immediately sought assistance from their neighbours and transported the injured infant to a nearby private hospital.

According to local residents, there is confusion surrounding how the fire broke out in the latrine. The exact cause remains unknown. However, Raju, the woman's husband, has stated that he was outside watching a football match and was unaware of the incident until he returned home during the halftime interval.

Meanwhile, police have not given any official version of death. It remains unknown whether the act was suicide. They have not yet commented on the husband’s claim either.

The deceased woman’s family finds the incident mysterious. The officials are probing the matter in detail.
