Thiruvananthapuram: Three people drowned in the deadly Vattakkayam spot of Kallar here. The deceased are Beemapally natives Safan, Firos and Javad.

Two members of the gang were rescued by the natives. The locals say a girl in their team entered the river first and others jumped in to rescue her after she lost control.

Firos was a policeman at SAP Camp.

Vattakkayam is en-route to the popular tourist spot Ponmudi. Many have lost lives in this location which tempts the travellers to stop by and enter. However, sudden surge in water inflow is common in this river. There are warning boards in the location against venturing into the river. Apart from Vattakkayam, several other spots of Kallar have also claimed lives.

Ponmudi is closed after the road was damaged on Monday. Many tourists headed to Ponmudi unaware of the news stops at the riverside.
