TVM-Kollam passenger train derails, no casualties
Kollam: A passenger train derailed in Kollam in the wee hours on Friday morning. There were no casualties. The engine of the Thiruvananthapuram-Kollam passenger (56307) derailed immediately after it left platform number 3. There are reports that the engine slipped tracks due to the carelessness of the loco pilot.
Soon after the derailment, the railway authorities examined the accident site and said that a metal rod inserted between the wheels was not taken out when it stopped in Kollam station and this resulted in the mishap. It is the loco pilot who is responsible to remove the rod.
The railways have directed a detailed probe into the incident. As the train was derailed in the 3rd platform, other rail traffic was not disrupted. The train began journey 10 minutes late.
