Thiruvananthapuram: A team of forensic officials visited areas affected by the massive fire accident that happened at Vazhuthacaud here on Friday. They collected evidence and tried to decipher the reasons behind the accident. KSEB officials also visited the spot to ascertain whether a short circuit was the cause of the fire. Police and fire and safety personnel had examined the spot earlier.

A massive fire broke out in an aquarium shop on MP Appan Road on Friday. The fire gutted the shop and spread to nearby houses and families were affected. There were no casualities due to the proactive interventions of locals and rescue officials.

Meanwhile, properties of the families were damaged. The sunshade on the first floor of the nearby house and plants were gutted.

According to a couple residing nearby, 30 sovereigns of jewellery meant for their child’s baptism was lost in the fire. Cash too was lost, they claimed. The couple are now temporarily residing in their neighbour's house.

On the other hand, the loss for the aquarium shop has been estimated at Rs 50 lakh, said one of the owners. The godown, expensive ornamental fishes and equipment inside was destroyed. The shop had been functioning in the region for nearly two decades.
