Thiruvananthapuram: A fight broke out between CPM and BJP councillors in front of Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation on Monday morning over the controversial letter allegedly written by Mayor Arya Rajendran. Women councillors verbally abused each other while police tried to calm the tension in the corporation office premises.
The letter, addressing CPM district secretary Anavoor Nagappan as "comrade", sought a priority list of cadres to be appointed in temporary posts in the civic body. The incident kicked up political debate in Kerala on Sunday.
Following this, BJP councillors on Monday tried to enter into the Mayor's chamber demanding the resignation of Arya Rajendran. However, the police stopped them from entering the premises by locking the gates. In response, BJP members locked CPM councillor and welfare standing committee member Salam in his office. Later, a fight broke out between CPM and BJP members.
