Thiruvananthapuram: A college student has filed a complaint with the human rights commission against the police saying he was beaten up inside the lock up for no reason.

Adithyan, a student of the Pirappancode University Institute of Technology (UIT), said in the complaint that Venjaramoodu SI Rahul’s high handedness caused him damage to the eardrum.

According to Adithyan, he was picked by police from Thycaud junction on February 22 at 4.45 pm. He was waiting for a bus to Venjaramoodu when the police jeep stopped in front of him and asked what he was doing there. The officer asked why he was not standing in the bus stop on the opposite side where his bus stops. Adithyan replied that he would not see the bus coming if he stood there. The policeman accused him of being arrogant for this reply and took him to the station, said Adithyan.

The student was locked up with handcuffs and was subjected to physical and mental torture, according to the complaint.

Audio recordings and medical documents of the treatment are submitted along with the complaint. Apart from the human rights commission, Adithyan has also sent complaints to the Venjaramoodu police circle inspector and the DGP.

SI Rahul has dismissed the allegations.
