Tussle over principal post in Kannur Govt. Engineering College
Dharmashala: Two people have been receiving the salary of principal at Kannur Govt. Engineering college here for the last 16 months. Dr N Vijayakumar took charge as the principal at the college as per the court order issued on October 27, 2018.
When Vijayakumar, a native of Kavadiyar in Thiruvananthapuram went to his home, a new principal assumed his office. Kozhikode native Dr OV Rajini took charge as the new principal on March 11, 2019 after the higher education department issued an order on March 7.
In the same order, higher education department demoted Dr Vijayakumar to the post of the professor from the principal’ s post.
Following this, Dr Vijayakumar approached state administrative tribunal seeking justice in the order which demoted him. Considering his petition, the tribunal ordered that Vijayakumar is entitled to continue in the post and receive all benefits from October 14, 2019, till the next order.
However, the higher education department did not intervene in the issue even after 8 months from the tribunal’ s order.
Amidst this, the higher education department issued a special order on June 19, 2019, directing that the officials who continue in their post as per the court order will get all allowances and benefits without any failure.
Teachers who work in the post of principal are entitled to special allowances. Hence, due to the lapses of the technical education department, the government has to give this allowance to two people in the same institution.
Government is incurring a loss of lakhs due to this lapse.
It is alleged that the intervention of the ruling party’ s union in the higher education department has led to such strange orders.
