Thiruvananthapuram: The tussle for the president post of the Kerala leg of the Youth Congress (YC) has gained momentum in the state. Discussions and speculations about potential candidates are already taking centre stage.

National leadership of YC favours an election instead of a unanimous recommendation.

Shifi Parambil is likely to continue until the state conference of the organisation. Now, the question in the spotlight is who will replace him.

Congress veteran Oommen Chandy-backed A Group has been pushing for JS Akhil, national coordinator of YC. Akhil’s organisational level experience and past narrow miss in the run to become KSU state president make him a sound candidate.

On the other hand, Shafi is apparently trying to bring Rahul Mamkootathil as his successor. The members are divided on this plan. Some believe Mamkootathil will be a better choice for state spokesperson of the organisation.

The other prospective members with organisational experience are Binu Chulliyil, KM Abhijith and Manjukuttan.

Interestingly, all eyes are on KPCC chief K Sudhakaran and VD Satheesan to know their support.
