Marayoor: The wild tusker ‘Padayappa’ demolished the gate of Govt Higher Secondary School, Vagavurrai in Munnar by around 5 am on Wednesday. By breaking the gate, the elephant entered the school premises and left only after staying there for half-an-hour.

Attender Yogesh Kumar was at the school when the elephant entered as he was in charge of the security of the Plus Two examination question papers. Though he was aware of the elephant’s entry, he stayed inside the school.

The school authorities had reported the troubles caused by the elephant even before. The lanes where the plantation workers reside are situated near the school premises. They are living here under the fear of elephant attack.
