Tusker Guruvayur Valiya Kesavan dies at 52
Thrissur: Guruvayur Valiya Kesavan, the king tusker of Guruvayur Devaswom, died here on Monday.
The 52-year-old elephant is the most popular, tallest and one among the celebrated tuskers of Guruvayur Devaswom.
Valiya Kesavan who had a calm nature used to carry the idol of Lord Sri Krishna at the Guruvayur temple.
The elephant’s death was confirmed at 11.30 am on Monday.
He was under treatment for more than 2 years for a tumour. Kesavan was completely weak for the last two months.
Nakeri Mana, a family of Guruvyur temple priests, donated Valiya Kesavan to the Sri Krishna temple on May 9, 2000.
Following the death of Valiya Kesavan, the number of elephants owned by Guruvayur Devaswom has reduced to 45.
