Chulliparambil Vishnu Shankar

Thrissur: Thirty six-year-old tusker Chulliparambil Vishnu Shankar died on Sunday at 6.30 pm from its pavilion in Engandiyur. The elephant was undergoing treatment for the past four months after sustaining an acute foot disease. It was unable to eat for the last two days. Tusker Vishnu Shankar had a huge fan base among the elephant lovers of the state.

Chulliparambil Vishnu Shankar held a prominent position during the elephant marches of Kerala festivals and in the elephant head lifting competitions.

Vishnu Shankar became popular after defeating the famous Mangalamkunnu Karnan in a head lifting competition held at Chakkumarassery temple in Paravoor in 2006.

Chulliparambil Sasidharan had bought the tusker in 2000 after it was transported to the state from Sonpur Mela.
