Triple lockdown likely to be enforced in more places as WIPR remains high
Thiruvananthapuram: The places under triple lockdown in the state will be revised on the basis of the weekly infection population ratio (WIPR) on Wednesday. Many more wards will be under strict restrictions as the spread of the disease remains uncontrollable. More Covid tests will be carried out in districts where vaccination drive is not effectively progressing.
Lockdown was implemented in 414 wards under local bodies last week, where the WIPR was above 8. There has been a 3 percent increase in the infection ratio within a week following the unprecedented spread of Covid.
The test positivity rate (TPR) had crossed 18 percent the other day. The number of wards with IPR above 8 has increased. Triple lockdown will be ensured much more stringently in these areas in the coming week. The number of micro containment zones will also go up.
The health department has taken necessary steps to increase vaccination and testing. The department aims to finish the first dose vaccination of all eligible people by next month. They will also ensure the distribution of 10 lakh doses of vaccines bought by Kerala Medical Services Corporation (KMSCL) via private hospitals.
