Tribunal terms transfer of 4 IFS officials in forest dept illegal

Kochi: The Central Administrative Tribunal has reported that the forest department's decision to transfer 4 IFS officials is prima facie violation of service rules. The department had transferred 4 IFS officials, including deputy conservator NT Sajan.

Southern zone CCF Sanjayan Kumar and north zone deputy conservator DK Vinod Kumar approached the tribunal requesting to cancel the transfer order. While considering their plea, the tribunal observed that the transfer of the officials was illegal.

The tribunal sought an explanation from the government and issued a stay order on the transfer of the two petitioners. The tribunal will consider the plea again on April 7.

Southern zone CCF Sanjayan Kumar has been transferred from Kollam to the post of Working Plan and Research department CCF in Vazhuthakkad forest headquarters. Meanwhile, NT Sajan, the official who faced allegations over the Muttil tree felling case, got promoted to the post of CCF in Kollam. Kannur CCF DK Vinod Kumar who submitted a report against Sajan in the tree felling case has been transferred to the post of social forestry deputy conservator in Kollam. With this, Sajan will be Vinod Kumar's superior official.

The officials approached the Central Administrative Tribunal against the transfer citing it is violation of Indian Forest Service Rules.

In the plea, Sanjayan Kumar alleged that the forest department granted double promotion to NK Sajan who is currently serving as Deputy Conservator.

After facing allegations over the tree felling case, the department received recommendation to suspend Sajan. It is learnt that the department promoted him to a higher post due to political pressure. The petitioners also alleged that the department violated the Supreme Court order in the matter.
