Tribal girl in critical condition after receiving burn injuries
Mankulam: A 16-year-old Tribal girl belonging to Thalumkandam tribal colony in Mankulam is in critical condition after suffering burn injuries on Monday evening.
Shalini, daughter of Moolel Ravi, is a 10th standard student. The incident happened around 7.30 pm on Monday. In her statement to the police and hospital authorities, the girl said that somebody had poured Kerosene over her body and ignited the fire.
The girl is presently undergoing treatment at Kottayam Medical College.
According to Shalini, she and her elder sister Nandini, who is a plus two student, was studying in their home. Her father, step mother and younger brother were at home. Salini got burnt when she went to the toilet that is situated outside the house. The girl says that somebody poured kerosene over her body and ignited the fire. The cup used to collect kerosene was found from the spot.
On hearing the girl's cries after getting burnt, her father rescued her. Locals who reached the spot on hearing about the incident took the girl to Mankulam clinic and later to Adimaly taluk hospital. As her burn injuries were serious, she was shifted to Kottayam Medical College.
A police team led by Munnar SI reached Kottayam Medical College on Tuesday and took Salini's statement. They also collected details from her father and relatives. Police think that there is mystery behind the incident.
