Thiruvananthapuram: The Green Tribunal charged a suo motu case in connection with Muttil tree felling case. The case was charged on the basis of news reports.
The Southern Zone Bench of the Tribunal has sought explanation from the chief secretary and the secretaries in the revenue and forest departments on August 31.
It has been directed to report the number of trees chopped, environmental impact and violation of environment laws in the response to be filed.
In addition to this, the Green Tribunal has directed the Wayanad district collector also to submit a report on the matter.
