Transgender community demands reservation in PSC appointments

Thiruvananthapuram: State Youth Commission Adalat considered a plea moved by transgender community demanding reservation in PSC appointments. The transgender people requested the state youth commission to consider them as minority and give reservation in PSC appointments.

They also informed the commission that if they get a permanent job in government service they can improve their standard of living and attitude of public towards them.

Apart from reservation in PSC appointments, the transgender community also requested the government to meet the expenditure of their sex reassignment surgery. At present, government allots a financial aid to the transgender people who have undergone the surgery.

Addressing the adalat, they also demanded that their identity card should mark their gender as transgender instead of third gender.

Most of the transgender people complained over the negligence from the family at the adalat. Shine Rahman, a transman approached the adalat seeking action to get a share from his ancestral property.

State Youth Commission chairperson Chintha Jerome informed that their complaints will be resolved soon with the cooperation of the related departments.
