Train passenger collapses and dies; body kept on platform for half an hour
Shoranur: A 57-year-old man collapsed and died while travelling in a train on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Mohanan Nair, a native of Thrissur.
Mohanan Nair was travelling to Pune from Thrissur in the Netravati Express. When the train reached Shoranur, he collapsed and fell into the lap of a co-passenger. Mohanan was soon taken out of the train. But, he was laid on the platform for more than half-an-hour due to unavailability of an ambulance.
Following that, a railway doctor, who came to the platform to attended to Mohanan confirmed his death. Lack of ambulance at the railway station delayed medical treatment to Mohanan.
Later, an ambulance owned by public cemetery operators was hired to take the body to the railway hospital for further examination. The ambulance was arranged by the Railway Protection Force and railway police. Mohanan’s body was later shifted to the Ottappalam Taluk Hospital.
Mohanan has been working as a mechanic in Pune for the last 13 years. He and his wife Bindu were returning to Pune after Onam vacation in Thrissur.
