Accused Shahrukh Saifi

Kochi: The accused of train arson attack in Kozhikode, Shahrukh Saifi, has been sent for remand again. The suspect, who was under the custody of National Investigation Agency (NIA), was produced in the court on Friday evening. The NIA officials informed the court that the investigation to confirm the terrorist links of the accused is progressing.

The remad period will expire on May 27.

NIA had conducted extensive raids at the suspect’s residence in Shaheen Bagh. The investigation team quizzed his friends and seized the mobile phones of many of them. The mobile phones will soon be sent for scientific examinations.

Though the accused has been charged with UAPA (Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, NIA could not reportedly fetch any concrete evidence to prove the terrorist connections of him.
