Thamarassery: In a move to ease traffic congestion on the Thamarassery Ghat road, strict regulations imposed by the authorities, on account of holidays, came into effect on Wednesday. Goods-laden trucks and other heavy duty vehicles on the Kozhikode-Kollegal National Highway were halted from 3 pm till 9 pm the previous day.
The traffic regulations and vehicle inspections were led by the Adivaram outpost police and Thamarassery traffic police under the supervision of Thamarassery DySP Ashraf.
Currently, regulations are imposed on heavy duty tippers, goods-laden vehicles with more than 10 wheels, multi-axle vehicles and over-dimensional trucks. It will be in place from 3 pm till 9 pm on public holidays, including Saturdays and Sundays, and on Fridays falling next to second Saturdays.
In addition, traffic control will also be in effect from 6 am to 9 am at the pass on Mondays.
Meanwhile, unaware of the regulations, several heavy vehicles and labourers had to wait on the road for hours until 9 pm the other day. The traffic control shall continue to be in place in the coming days too.
