Traffic congestion on Kuthiran stretch extends to over 50 hrs
Kuthiran: Traffic snarls on Kuthiran National Highway continue unabated. The block witnessed at 5.30 on Thursday evening continued even till Saturday midnight. This is for the first time that vehicles are stuck for such a long time.
On Saturday, only a few vehicles were able to pass the NH, which is half the regular number. Excluding private buses and a few goods lorries from Palakkad, no other vehicles were able to cross the Kuthiran region. Even then, traffic could not be restored.
Neither the National Highways Authority nor the district administration were able to address the issue and this has raised wide allegation. Fearing protests, the staff at the construction company at Chuvattupadam left office.
On Saturday, as many as 10 vehicles were caught in the traffic snarl due to repair. Though the Peechi police and the Highway police tried to ease the traffic congestion, due to lack of staff they were unable to manage. Some of the junctions were managed by the local people. The traffic was restored to some extent with the local people helping the vehicle owners to change the punchered tyres or by pushing the repaired vehicles towards the sides of the road.
Usually traffic blocks on the Kuthiran stretch extends to only about 6 or 7 hours. But this time, traffic could not be restored as the roads were damaged beyond repair. This situation is likely to continue till the roads are properly laid.
On Sunday, the Peoples Action Council will hold protests to highlight about the present situation.
