Traditional healer’s death: Accused possess assets worth Rs 300 cr, SIT heads to TN


Wayanad: In the murder of a traditional healer, the probe team has been investigating on the financial growth of the accused Shibin Ashraf. During the interrogation, the accused revealed that he possess assets worth over Rs 300 cr.

Sulthan Bathery natives are also surprised about the financial growth of the accused who was an autorickshaw driver and a lorry cleaner. He emerged as a millionaire and NRI under mysterious circumstances. Hence, the probe team has been investigating on his financial sources.

It was 10 years back, Shibin migrated to UAE on a labour visa. But at present, he is a millionaire.

A bungalow is being constructed for Shibin at Puthankunnu in Sulthan Bathery. It is reported that Shibin started the construction of his 20,000 square feet house about 7 years ago. The construction is not completed yet. It is learnt that over Rs 20 cr will be spent for the work.

Shibin had told his neighbours and friends that he is engaged in many business ventures including oil firm in UAE.

He had taken a group of youth to UAE and employed them as his bodyguards. They used to escort him in luxury cars. But most of them returned to Kerala during 2018-19.

The intelligence department confirmed that Shibin’s firm Star One Group functioned as a quotation gang. His goons used to kidnap and manhandle his enemies and those who opposed him. Though some people filed complaint with police, the cases were settled using money power and political influence. Shibin had made good relations with politicians and officials as he used to bribe them. All these contacts are under the scanner of the intelligence department.

It is hinted that a former senior police official had given advices to Shibin over his criminal cases. He used to subvert the cases with this contact.

Shibin who was born in a poor family in Nilambur moved to Wayanad with his father. He migrated to UAE in 2005. Within 6-7 years, he emerged as a millionaire.

In 2013, he purchased a house in Nilambur. He was not very close with his neighbours. He had a few friends in Nilambur.

Meanwhile, the probe team informed that two of the accused in the traditional healer’s murder moved to Tamil Nadu. A Special Investigation Team has been headed to Tamil Nadu for tracing the duo.

As per the case, the traditional healer named Shaba Sharif from Mysuru was tortured and killed in Shabin’s house. It is learnt that he was held as a hostage since August 2019. The murder came into light during a probe into a burglary case.

Five people are booked in the murder case. Apart from Shibin, Nishad and Shihabudeen who were arrested over the case are housed in Manjeri sub-jail. Two accused who helped Shibin to kidnap the traditional healer are absconding.
