TP murder case convicts allowed extra 290 days' parole
Thiruvananthapuram: The convicts in the T P Chandrasekharan murder case who are in jail were granted an extra 290 days' parole. The Chief Minister had stated in the Assembly that a special parole for 290 days apart from the normal parole as per prison rules was allowed due to the Covid situation.
The CM had said this while responding to a question raised by Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan that the convicts do not pose any threat to the public. Among the convicts, late P K Kunjanandan was granted the highest number of days as parole. During the time between 2014 to 2019, he was allowed 327 days as normal and emergency parole. P K Kunjanandan who was out on bail from March 3 2020, died on June 11 in the same year.
Amongst the convicts currently lodged in jails, K C Ramachandran was granted the maximum number of days paroles. He has had 291 days of parole from 2014 till date. Kirmani Manoj got 180 days from 2017. Other convicts who were granted parole are as follows: Anoop-175, Annan Sijith-255, Rafeeq-170, Trouser Manoj-257, Mohammed Shafeeq-180, Shinoj-150, and Rajeesh-160.
It has been pointed out in the CM’s reply that these are not included in the 290 days of paroles granted in 2020. Presently, everyone except Kodi Suni is on special parole owing to the Covid situation. Kodi Suni has been allowed only 60 days of emergency and ordinary parole in 2018 so far.
