Munnar: Around 30 tourists, including foreigners are stranded at Plum Judy resort in Pallivasal due to the landslide that occurred near the resort.
The situation is such that tourists are not able to venture out. Traffic has been disrupted in the landslides. The media has made public a video released by one of the tourists seeking help.
The video was released by the drivers who brought the tourists to the resort.
A tourist said around 20 families are there in the resort and people from various countries are there.
The Plum Judy resort is one of the buildings situated in the area in violation of the directions by the Disaster Management Authority and Idukki district administration.
The authorities had issued warning several times that the resort is not safe. Rescue efforts have not taken place here till now,
The landslides occurred at the place on Wednesday night. The resort is located four kilometres above Pallivasal.
Police are not able to reach the place.
Meanwhile, Tourism minister Kadakampally Surendran informed that all the tourists are completely safe.
The Minister had telephoned the tourists and evaluated the situation as soon as he came to know about the incident.
A military team has left for the place after the minister sought its help to make the roads at the place suitable for traffic movement and for the safety of the tourists.
The Minister has directed the resort authorities to give free food to the tourists. He also asked the authorities to move the tourists including foreigners in Idukki to other safe places outside the district.
Kadakampally said that tourism has been completely banned in Idukki. Tourists, tourism centres and resorts should inform either the district administration or tourism department if they encounter any problem, he said.
The Minister added that there is no cause for anxiety in the present scenario.
