Anoop with wife and son
Thiruvananthapuram: Sreevaraham native Anoop, who won the first prize of Onam Bumper, shared his happiness with Mathrubhumi News. "I never expected to win the first prize," Anoop reacted. He said that he hasn’t decided on how to use the money.
Being the sole breadwinner of his family, Anoop who is an autorickshaw driver struggled a lot to raise Rs 500 to purchase the lottery. He had to break his son's piggy bank to find the money for buying the ticket hours before the draw.
" Rs 50 was short to purchase the ticket, So I took money from my son’s piggy bank. My wife would have scolded me if I didn’t win the lottery. She used to tell me not to spend too much on lottery tickets," said Anoop.
Anoop was planning to fly to Malaysia for a job in a month. Though he had planned to take the Onam Bumper soon after its release, he failed to find the money after meeting his daily expenditure. He took the ticket last night when he finally got the money.
“I was dubious whether I won the first prize itself. My wife checked and confirmed the number for me. The ticket was taken after 8 pm on Saturday. At first, I took another ticket, but I put it back and then took this ticket. I have taken tickets before and won Rs 5,000 once. I am happy but also tensed at the same time that I am going to receive such a huge amount of money,” he added.
Anoop’s family consists of his wife, son and mother.
