Kozhikode: A toddler has been admitted to the Mother and Child Care Unit in the Medical College after sustaining severe injuries to her private parts and internal organs. The baby was brought to the hospital in critical condition on May 22 by her mother and grandmother, while her father is reportedly in Mysore.
The toddler is currently receiving treatment at the pediatric ICU after undergoing colostomy surgery.
It is alleged that the toddler was brought to the hospital two days after the incident occurred. Surprisingly, her parents claim to be unaware of what happened and have not filed any complaint. The hospital authorities themselves contacted the Panniyankara police to report the incident. However, the police have not taken any action so far.
Samples have been collected from the toddler's body for investigation. However, it is alleged that the police have not yet collected the samples, which are required to be sent to the lab for inspection within 72 hours. The hospital authorities have brought this matter to the attention of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), who are yet to respond.
Meanwhile, the police have informed that they have questioned the parents, relatives of the toddler after receiving the complaint. They said that they found nothing suspicious so far.
