Alappuzha: CPM councillor A Shanavas, accused in the Karunagappally drug smuggling case, on Friday said that the case was framed to trap him.

In a letter addressed to the Alappuzha north area committee, Shanavas alleged that former minister G Sudhakaran, PP Chitharanjan MLA and Alappuzha district secretary R Nazar are behind the move.

“A regional leader of the party lodged a complaint against me with the police and the Enforcement Directorate (EN) because he was instigated by these prominent leaders,” stated the letter.

“Factionalism within the party in Alappuzha is behind the drugsmuggling case,” alleged the leader.

Meanwhile, the area committee has decided to hand over the letter to the central leadership of the party.

Shanavas, who is owner of the vehicle that was seized in connection with the Karunagappally drug smuggling case, was earlier suspended from the party.
