Mullaperiyar Dam | Mathrubhumi
Idukki: Tamil Nadu issued the first warning after the water level in Mullaperiyar dam touched 136 feet. The warning message was given to the district administration when the water flowed into the spillway shutter. The current water level is recorded at 136.25 feet.
As per the latest reports, Tamil Nadu only carries 524 cubic feet of water when 2274 cubic feet of water flows to the dam per second. Meanwhile, the authorities informed the people living on the Periyar river coast that there is no cause for concern.
In Tamil Nadu, the water level in the Vaigai Dam, which collects water coming from Mullaperiyar, has reached 69.9 feet. The Vaigai Dam has a storage capacity of 71 feet.
The excess rains received in Tamil Nadu in the last few months have resulted in a gradual increase in water flow to Mullaperiyar Dam. As per the rule curve, 140 feet of water can be stored in the dam till November 20.
