Titanium job fraud: Woman arrested for extorting Rs 1.50 crore

Thiruvananthapuram: The Venjaramoodu police on Sunday arrested the main intermediary in the job fraud case on charges of swindling large sums of money after promising employment to job aspirants in the Travancore Titanium Products Ltd. (TTP).

The accused has been identified as Divya Jyothi alias Divya Nair (41). She was taken into custody from her house in Thiruvananthapuram Jacob junction, following a complaint lodged by a Pirappincode native, and has been remanded by the court.

Titanium’s legal assistant general manager Sasikumaran Thampi is the fifth accused in the case. Divya’s husband Rajesh and Thampi’s friends Prem Kumar and Shyamlal are the other accused and they are apparently on the run.

Divya had extorted about Rs 1.50 crore by cheating 29 job aspirants after giving them false promise of employment. As per the case, she had extorted Rs 14 lakh in 2020 alone.

According to the police, the fraud has been going on since 2018. The accused had shared posts on various Facebook groups citing job vacancies in TTP.

A case was also registered against her in the cantonment station on October 6. Following which, she was summoned for interrogation. However, no further action was taken.

The accused was arrested by an investigation team led by district police superintendent D Shilpa, Attingal DySP D Binu, Venjaramoodu CI Anoop Krishna among others.
