Tiger found dead in pond in Idukki raises questions of how it entered populated area

Idukki: A controversy has surfaced regarding the death of a tiger in a populated area in Vazhavara. The carcass of a tiger was discovered from a pond in Nirmalacity on Sunday.

As per the post mortem report of the tiger, it had drowned. On Friday, a calf was injured in an attack by the tiger.

Meanwhile, DCC president CP Mathew said that the forest department should clarify how the tiger entered the populated area. Vazhavara is 40 kilometres from Thekkady where the Periyar Tiger Reserve is situated. Reports had emerged from several areas in the district regarding sighting foot prints of tigers, he said.

Forest department officials said that they were collecting information from the areas where the footprints of the tiger were found. They said a root map would be put out.
