Kozhikode: LJD state president MV Shreyams Kumar expressed hope that the thumping win of Congress in the Karnataka Assembly election will lead to unity among the opposition parties in their run up for the Lok Sabha elections 2024.

Congress secured an emphatic win in Karnataka polls last week, pushing BJP out of power in the only southern state it ruled, and boosting its own prospects for the electoral battles ahead.

Congress won 135 seats, comfortably crossing the halfway mark in the 224-member Karnataka assembly.

While the Bharatiya Janata Party won 66 seats, JD(S) managed to secure only 19 seats.

Welcoming the outcome of the Karnataka polls, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan said that BJP has now been ousted from southern India.
