Thrissur: Though Thrissur Pooram for this year has concluded, the Pooram enthusiasts are yet to be pleased. The long-awaited fireworks that formally put an end to the festivals have been postponed till the rain recedes. Meanwhile, the deadly firecrackers stored in the heart of the city put the district administration and police under pressure. The firecrackers were manufactured in such a manner that they could not be stored too long. Most of it is vulnerable to high and low temperatures.

The officials of the Petroleum and Explosive Safety Organisation said that these firecrackers could not be preserved indefinitely here. The authorities have decided to conduct fireworks immediately after the rain ceases. Otherwise, the only way to destroy it is through blasting.

The facilities to blast the firecrackers are available at the National Arms Factory in Kakkanad. But, PESO will not grant permission to transport the explosives from here, in view of safety concerns. The fireworks that were scheduled to be conducted on May 11 morning have been put off indefinitely.

The firecrackers stored in two different buildings for Thrissur pooram are absolutely safe under police protection. The buildings with over 600 square feet space have been constructed with granite walls as per the guidelines of PESO.
