Thrissur Pooram limited to rituals this year too; no entry for public

Thiruvambady and Paramekkavu Devaswoms also relaxed their previous stand that Thrissur Pooram should be held with celebrations and agreed to limit the festival to rituals.

Thiruvananthapuram: In view of the Covid surge in Kerala, it has been decided to limit Thrissur Pooram to the rituals only. The public will not be allowed to participate in the festival. This was decided in a meeting held by the chief secretary.

The new decision was taken as the Covid situation worsened. Earlier, it was decided to conduct Thrissur Pooram in the normal way. However, the test positivity rate in Thrissur rose to 21.97 percent and the daily number of cases also crossed 1000. With this, the decision was reconsidered.

Thiruvambady and Paramekkavu Devaswoms also relaxed their previous stand that Thrissur Pooram should be held with celebrations and agreed to limit the festival to rituals. Only the organisers can take part in the festival. The police also had requested to avoid gatherings and celebrations.
