Thrissur Pooram fireworks: SC nod for using string crackers
New Delhi: The Supreme Court has directed to grant permission for using string crackers (Malapadakkam) for the fireworks as part of Thrissur Pooram. The three-member bench headed by Justice S. A. Bobde observed that the firework is an essential element of the temple festival.
The court issued the direction based on the plea filed by Thiruvambadi and Paramekkavu Devaswoms requesting clarification on the matter of string crackers. In October 2018, the apex court had pronounced a verdict curbing the manufacturing, sales and use of crackers following the frequent firework tragedies.
The court had also made it clear that manufacturing, sales and use of only eco-friendly crackers that cause less pollution will be allowed. Following this, the Devaswoms approached the Supreme Court for a clarification on the verdict.
